Year II – nº 6 – February 2005
The ICU is now completely equipped after the acquisition of electronic beds, respiratory machines, defibrillators, an Omniflow micro-processor, and all the necessary furniture. Come and see it.
All the rooms are decorated with new furniture, electric beds, Forma couches, nightstands, and crankless meal tables, which patients had been requesting for a time. Every single one of the 21 rooms displays a picture with a drawing of toucans, and keeps a book about the origin of such birds, written in both Portuguese and English. We have been receiving compliments mainly from foreign patients and their companions because of this initiative.
The Nutrition Department, under the supervision of nutritionist Jessika Brock, has been greatly appraised patients, doctors, and other members of the hospital staff.
A new employee has been hired – Ms. Neuza – ext. 248 – who will be in charge of the mini-fridge, medical garments, and silicon breast implants. The mini-fridge is now filled with mineral water, Gatorade, coconut water, yogurt, and soda pop. Payment for the items consumed shall be made by the time of patients’ discharge. We offer all kinds and sizes of post-surgical compression garments and implants for sale, at the same price offered by the manufacturers.
We would like to remind you that our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff requests all patients to answer a clinical pre-operatory questionnaire, at admission, no matter if the patients have previously undergone some examinations.
It is our pleasure to inform that Hospital da Plástica already has a library available on the annex building, with plenty of specialized books on plastic surgery and anesthesia – the latter having been purchased under the supervision of Dr. Luiz Fernando Saubermann, one of our anethesiologists.
The library is exclusively to be used by plastic surgeons, resident doctors and anesthesiologists working for Hospital da Plástica. Doctors other than those who are working for Hospital da Plástica are not allowed at the library. The following books on Anesthesia can be found at the library: Manica, Barash, and Miller and issues of the Brazilian Anesthesiology Magazine (Revista Brasileira de Anestesiologia). Please check the list of available books on plastic surgery. Doctors are welcome to help themselves to ice water, coffee, newspapers and magazines in general. The library is a place meant to help surgeons and anesthesiologists relax.
